SO good. I try to muse often about the "unaware allocations" that silently steal from the intentional ones. The points are just like the laws of diffusion - particles left to their own devices move from areas of highest concentration to lowest concentration. Don't let entropy win.
I love this concept, Ryan. You had really clear intentions at the beginning of the article that made me feel compelled to read on. The visuals were super helpful too.
I think even on 100 days it’s important to have some life points allocated to rest or ‘me time’. How you unwind or fill your own cup deserves as much energy as work or relationships or fitness.
I loved the journal prompts at the end. You could even ask yourself this first thing in the morning too and set yourself an intention of where you want your energy to go that day, then reflect on how accurately you achieved this at the end of the day.
Personally, if this article were to become part of a larger body of text I would love to see more questions for reflection embedded throughout so that I can fully ponder each fantastic idea you have.
Thank you so much Amy! I really appreciate you taking the time to read through and leave such an insightful comment. Agreed, when this gets expanded upon to a larger text, I definitely plan to add in reflection questions to help people better understand category selection, how to gain life points, and what usage really looks like.
This is such an interesting and practical way of thinking about how we spend our energy on a daily, weekly, and even monthly basis. I loved how you posed realistic scenarios and acknowledged that we aren’t machines with an unlimited or predetermined amount of time or energy day to day. Your piece definitely left me reflecting on where my energetic resources are going and how I can better use them to support who I want to be and the life I want to have. Brilliant article, Ryan!
I enjoyed the read, and respect the work. The framework landed for me, I'm curious if you've read any sociology theories? I see some overlaps from work I've read in the past. All good stuff, just curiouis the foundations.
I haven’t yet, mainly just stuff bouncing around in my head and putting thoughts into a framework. I’m definitely interested in this kind of stuff though!
This is brilliant. I've used the idea in recent years only in terms of cognitive load - specifically overload - and aim to use allocated points for prioritised decisions during the day. It works with limited scope. This model has revealed to me that I'm not including enough categories in my allocation.
I love this. I used a similar model to explain to my friend who was upset with me that I “didn’t have time for her,” while taking care of of my dad with ALS.
I tried explaining, “I have $100 in my emotional checkbook everyday. My dad gets $75 and my family gets the leftover $25.” (I’m a mother of 4 with a wonderful husband) I was trying to explain that at this particular time, I didn’t have the bandwidth to engage in anything else. I was kind of in survival mode. I hadn’t thought about your model of allocation and it changing through context and time. That would have been a helpful extra explanation for her because she still could not understand that emotionally I was spent. Anyways, thanks for sharing this. Now I’m in a complete different phase and I think this can be helpful to me!
Thanks

Thank you so much! I am glad that you enjoyed reading. Hoping to expand on this topic in future projects!

Thanks again! I hope you have a great day!!
Really good and practical framework! Great perspective on daily energy!
Good stuff Ryan! Keep these coming :D
thank you so much! I’m glad it provided some value to you. Appreciate your support!
This really clicked for me. Framing progress around capacity instead of discipline takes a lot of unnecessary pressure off. Thanks Ryan.
Thank you!!
Bravo, my friend.
Your intelligence surprises me more each day that goes by.
You never stop amazing me.
My guy, thank you!!

You’re welcome!
Wow, great and unique perspective!
Thank you!
This could help a lot of people get more clarity in their day to day
Thank you very much!

I know better now. I'll do better.
